Quickstart

Framecap's website build supports local CLI, MCP, and Skill workflows on macOS 14+. The App itself does not need Python; CLI and MCP need Python 3.8+.

1. Install the signed and notarized website build. The App Store build does not include automation.

2. Run framecap version --json and framecap doctor --json.

3. Test without Screen Recording: copy examples/agent/source.png and annotate.json to a writable folder, replace both paths with absolute paths, then run framecap edit apply --file annotate.json.

4. Open the output and verify the pixels, not only the JSON response.

5. Start Framecap, grant Screen Recording in System Settings when macOS asks, restart Framecap, and rerun doctor before capture.

The first permission prompt always needs the user. A remote or browser-only agent cannot operate this Mac.
